A vintage teddy bear sits ready to drive this ancient fire truck right onto Main Street. He reminds me of Bruno, my well-loved bear since I was two. Many of my kids’ poems are drawn from my childhood experiences – riding ocean waves, campfires, fishing and star-gazing. Some reflect what my kids have taught me – humming to periwinkles, searching for mermaids’ purses and exploring tide pools.
Limpets laze on rocks,
wait for high tide’s algae lunch
and sidestep sea stars.
