The Green Mountains surround the Studio Center here. I think of all they have witnessed over the years. Wildlife, Native Americans, colonists, British soldiers and Vermonters working the land have all lived in these valleys. Artists and writers are still inspired by the Vermont landscape and people.

Yesterday, I visited a Vermont elder and her tiger cat, Abby. Over apple pie, we danced around politics. When we discovered we support the same candidate, I was surprised at her passion and concern for our country and the world. She gave credence to Vermonters’ reputation for being strong-minded.

In the evening, the resident writers gave a reading. We shared poetry, short story and historical fiction. The artists attended, as well. We’re beginning to feel like a community.
