Poetry Friday

I’m offering a Christmas poem instead of a Solstice poem, but it does involve light! Thanks to Heidi for hosting today and being so creative in rounding up early. Read all the light-filled poems at My Juicy Little Universe.

Tidings

Wise ones traveled across foreign terrain,
trusting the light of a new charted star.
Hope moved them forward and fed their vision,
to worship the child king their reward.

Angelic voices startled shepherds.
They struggled against fear to understand
strange tidings in a world of conflict –
Peace on earth? Good will toward man?

Love came alive in a Bethlehem stable.
The creator bowed low, a doorway to form
for the royal king expected for centuries.
Yet, nestled in hay, Christ is born.

In light of last week's events, these lines ring very true. I'm looking forward to your book on Hildegard, Joyce! Love her music. Fabulous topic!

    1. It is often difficult these days to find the peace and goodwill. We are often challenged to maintain faith. Thanks for commenting!

  2. I love this line:
"Hope moved them forward and fed their vision,"
I imagine them setting out on a trip that would take perhaps months and involve all kinds of nasty things like sand storms, sleeping under the elements and uncomfortable upholstery. You would need 'hope' to keep moving forward.

"Tidings" is such a good choice for a title too! May your Christmas be full of hope, peace, and love!
